Private Collection Policy

     The library provides a certain section for the private collection to help the beneficiaries on getting the source of rare information or the PhD and master dissertations and government's publications and prints. Moreover, the library helps beneficiaries to define its location and guides them of using it and how to get benefit from it. Moreover, to introduce students through a training program on how to organize the special collections on shelves. Each source of information that relates to the private collections has a certain symbol of letters which is shown on a source's sticker on top of the number of order. Searching for any source of the private collection will be through the library catalog, The private collection includes:

Scientific publications:is the graduate thesis- master and doctoral dissertation- or dissertations that comes as contribution and has been accepted by king Abdul-Aziz university whether it is E- dissertation or print. Arabic dissertation is symbolized by the letter (r) followed by the first letter of university's name that comes from and for foreign dissertation, it is symbolized by the letter (D) followed by first letter of its university’s name. The dissertations are organized according to a bibliographic list.

Formal publications:means the formal documents that comes from companies, governments, organizations and banks whether it’s local, Arabic or International. It also includes reports for research, development planning, rules and Organizations. Foreign publications are symbolized by the letter (s). The letter (OD) symbolizes Arabic formal publications.

Manuscripts :the manuscripts has a major role on representing and recording the Arabic Islamic heritage. It opens a new dimension for searching and scientific investigation. Moreover, it has a historical artistically importance in which it contains an ancient decorations, pictures and colors that still remains as witness for Arabic Islamic culture. The manuscript is a text written by hand on paper or leather. The section has a (3215) print manuscripts, (2407) are origin and the others are copies. All the manuscripts are indexed on the automatic system of the deanship and library.

Private library: private library that is given to Deanship of Library Affairs of king Abdul Aziz university by a group of pioneers from Saudi Arabia such as Sheikh Mohammed bin Nasif, Prince Abdullah Al Faisal, Mohammed Ali Senussi, Hasan Al-Bahkali and others. As an honor for Saudi pioneers, the University specify a private section for their works. Allowing the researcher to see and get benefits from their works.

Rare books: is a collection of books that has been typed from 1500 years. The books have been organized on shelves according to their types. The library has (500) folders of Arabic and English rare books.

maps and cities scheme:includes pictures, geographical and geological maps, maps that illustrate the weathers of Arabic and Islamic countries, besides it provides scheme of all cities in Saudi Arabia.

Policy of using private collections
  • The sources most used only inside the hall just for reading.
  • It is not allowed to borrow any sources from private collection hall.
  • It is acceptable to copy the academic dissertations.
  • It is allowed to copy only (25) pages from academic dissertations after filling certain form for it.
  • It is acceptable to read the academic dissertations that's available online on CD-ROM by using a particular computer inside the hall.
The policy of using manuscripts:
  • A certain form for copying manuscript must be filled to revise it by manuscript section.
  • The graduate students in King Abdul-Aziz University must bring a formal letter from the supervisor and must be accepted from its faculty explaining his need of manuscript and the purpose of copying it.
  • For the researcher who belongs to a scientific foundation whether it's inside or outside the country, he should propose to the official organization which by itself will send an official speech illustrating the researcher needs for the manuscript and the purpose of copying it. There is an exception only for instructors of King Abdul Aziz University.
  • For other categories the researcher must shows his qualifications and scientific experience. Moreover, clarify his need for manuscript and the purpose of copying it. The subject will be presented to the Dean of Deanship of Library Affairs to take action.
  • The section of manuscript must choose the alternative copy. If it does not has a manuscript for a certain subject, it will inform the Dean.
  • It is required to pay fees for copying except for the manuscripts brought by singles to copy and while manuscripts section in need of getting an exact copy of its original.
